Art has always been about stories and connections. This raffle is both.

Earlier this year, interior designer Emily Walker curated and hosted an art show in her Washington DC apartment called Mazes and Masks, featuring paintings by artist Adam Mele, whose work reads like contemporary hieroglyphs with a propulsive momentum — bold, layered, alive. One of those paintings, "If You Know Me, I Know a Farmer", valued at $700, is now up for raffle to benefit Gaza Champions.

About the Painting (In Emily's Words)

Adam Mele's paintings feel like they are moving even when they are still. His visual language is dense and symbolic — somewhere between ancient mark-making and urgent contemporary expression. "If You Know Me, I Know a Farmer" is a piece that rewards looking, and looking again.

I love the idea of a painting made in DC during a time of tumult traveling to a new home — carrying awareness and support for people who deserve both.

I lived in Jerusalem for three years. I never made it to Gaza, but I have a painting hanging in my home made by a then-17-year-old Gazan artist named Malak Matar. It is one of my favorite pieces — not just because of what it looks like, but because of the story behind it. Art is really about that: stories, connections, the thread between people across distance and difference.

This raffle is a chance to be part of that kind of story. A painting made in DC, finding a home somewhere new, while helping a community in Gaza that is still here, still creating, still surviving.
