Help us fund a water pump in Gaza
We are aiming to raise $5000 USD by the end of the month for a waterpump to supply over 50 families in Gaza with a desperately needed domestic-use water source.
Water shortage is a huge problem in Gaza, with shortages at all levels due the destruction of infrastructure since October 7 and the subsequent to a lack of supply from Israel, as MSF have noted in a recent report.
We are aiming to raise just $5000 for Zaitona Mutual Aid to help a neighbourhood in Gaza City, currently using sea water for the washing and domestic use, with their water supply.
Our friend Mahmoud reached out to us last month to tell us about this neighbourhood, around the old sea port in a very crowded area of the city, who currently have no access to clean water for washing.
While the Emergency Committee (each neighbourhood selected a committee for helping the families in all the aid related needs) has managed to dig a well, the community can’t access the water as the well needs a pump and electricity supply. The digging of the well was funded through the Mauritanian Islamic Forum, but there are no funds for the pump and electricity, so until now the well cannot be used.

This neighbourhood is extremely crowded - with families living in tents, semi-destroyed buildings and makeshift homes. However, this is not officially classed as a refugee camp, and the occupants are not classed as “Internally Displaced” so the NGOs operating in Gaza are unable to easily support them, leaving this community with no one to help them, despite the dire need.
The families have been able to secure the electricity supply needed to power a pump for 2 hours a day, which will be enough to fill all of the water tanks and provide access, however they have not been able to afford a pump.
While new pumps are prohibitively expensive, a good second hand pump will do, making a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of people. Prices of everything in Gaza are unstable, but a second-hand pump should cost around $5000.
Help us raise money for this community to complete the project - all they need is a pump - they have managed to get a well and electricity, but without a pump is all useless.
